The Mississippi Governor's race will be about race, politics, and the future Mississippi. The first African American, Mayor Johnny Dupree, and Caucasin American, Lt. Governor, Phil Byrant are set to face off for the highest political office in Mississippi.
This election is about race for both obvious and not so obvious reasons. The obvious reason is Mayor Dupree is an African American running in a state that has a long past of racial issues and even now, with the hate crime, a present issue. There are numerous not so obvious reasons this election is about race. After the hate crime, numerous individuals both African Americans and Caucasin Americans came together to say Mississippi is above the issues of the past and the present crime is not representative of the state. This means both candidates should be viewed on their record and potential - not on racist motives.
This election is about politics because in the wake of the nation battle between Republicans and Democrats, who wins the top political spot in Mississippi is important. The difference between a Democratic or Republican leader at the helm of Mississippi will mean a difference in how the issues of taxes, healthcare, and jobs are handled.
Most of all this election is about the future of Mississippi. All voters in Mississippi must be educated on the importance of participating in the voting process. African Americans have an opportunity to make their voice heard. Caucasin Americans have an opportunity to demonstrate that Mississippi is a fair and equal opportunity state. Every ethnic group in Mississipppi has an opportunity to participate and make a difference in the future of Mississippi by simply voting.
Race, politics, and Mississippi needs every citizen to make a statement during this next Governor's race and election primary. "YOUR THOUGHTS"
