Waking Up To The Dream

In 2012, our nation has the propensity to continue Dr. King's dream for all people to have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness but  some in our nation are more concerned about money, power and prestige rather than what Dr. King was martyred for - equality, truth, and justice.
No longer do we need to sleep while our school systems fail and our prison system thrive.  No longer do churches need to rest on their treasures for  leaders to have private jets and mansion, but enter our communities and  provide for the needy .  No longer should hatred and covert racism undermine the fabric of our nation's ability to be a place where all people are treated equally.  No longer should public servants slumber with visions of winning the ballot rather than healing our nation.  No longer should hopelessness and despair become a suppressant for our brothers and sisters.  No longer do we need to sit silently without speaking truth to hypocrisy.
Dr. King' s legacy must not just be relived in his speech or in a ceremony but in our actions, deeds, and commitments to each other.
We must wake up and regain his dream in 2012.
