Be The Change Now

There are many of us who are disappointed with our government, our churches our, schools, and our communities. News pundits contribute fuel to our frustration by telling us what our leaders in these areas should be doing and are not doing.  We look for a savior to be elected or appointed whose anointed talents and skills will change things around.
I say, stop looking for a savior and become the change that you want to see.
Yes, this idea comes from Gandhi's principle of change but knowing the words mean nothing unless you begin to carry out the deeds. The process is simple, start right now being the change.
Individually you can only change your attitude, emotions, actions and those within your sphere of influence.
Being the change is not an easy thing and can even be frustrating.  Today, I found myself frustrated with my sons because they were bored at church and could not keep still.
       "Dad, I am bored."
"Dad, when will we leave church?"
       "Dad, I am sleepy."
After service my attitude was bad, but then I had several members come to me.
"It is a good thing that you bring your sons to church."
"I know the boys can frustrate you now, but when they get older they will understand."
These comments helped me understand that my efforts to bring my sons to church was making an impact on others and was making an impact in the future of my sons.
I  recognize that so many people say men, particularly African American men, have abandoned their children and are not good role models. I have made it a point to be the change by being with my sons every opportunity I can.  I have made it a point to not just take them to church but talk with them about God, education, and service to others. I pray with them. I assist my wife with helping them with their school work, and I praise them when they help a friend or a stranger.
Each of us can begin to make a difference in the world by one change at a time.  If you are involved government, church, or school- you can start by being the change. As individuals you can start at home.  This proven principle, being the change, can have results now.
Let each of us,  this week, find an area in our lives where we can be the change.
